Ideal for combination or oily skin, our mildly exfoliating charcoal facial soap makes quick work of excess oil to leave your skin matte and super clean. We counteract charcoal's deep-cleansing action with soothing rosewood and sandalwood oils to reduce redness and keep your skin nicely balanced. The formula is rounded out with a cleansing liquorice decoction, giving this bar a subtle anise scent.

Ive been using this product for YEARS now and I love it. I have noticed the change and miss being able to pick my own size based on weight. I don't love the smell but I really does help my combination skin

Too big for the tins, which means it made a mess in my bathroom because it leaves black marks on tile. Why not sell it in a size that fits inside one of the tins? My face felt clean after using it, but very dry.

I would buy this product again and again

This is the only soap that keeps my 17 year old sons acne at bay. He plays Lacross all year round and is always in that sweaty helmet, so you know, it is not just hormones that he has. I keep this in stock at the house at all times!

The old formula was the best. The new one doesn't last as long and won't lather. Please bring back the old formula.

Bring Back Old Formula

The old formula cleared up my son's skin quickly. It was non drying. I gave it to my nephew and it cleared up his skin as well. New formula is awful.

Let me guess? People were buying this in major pieces and never buying it again for the whole year... so you wanted to make sure it broke off and used more. The new formula burns. And EVERYONE SAYS THAT. You discontinue products for less. I don't understand why you haven't gone back to the drawing boards... or at least brought the old formula back and sold it in a smaller piece. If that formula is more money or lasts longer... than say that and advertise it with a price change. I would much rather spend more than not have it at all. And I'm sure all coalface lovers would feel the same.

It's a bit harsh

My skin is fairly normal, just the occasional pimple, and not particularly sensitive. I get a dead skin build up which is why I wanted to try out coalface. I quickly learned that I can't use a facecloth and coalface at the same time because it irritates my skin. It's been working well enough if I alternate between exfoliating with water and a cloth and gently washing with coalface every other day or so. Still, it's pretty harsh, and if it gets slightly inside my nose it stings.

The Best Cleanser Ever!!!

So this is one of the cleansers that I am not allergic to at Lush. I have Oral Allergy Syndrome - so it's really hard to find something that works. I was hesitant because of the reviews I saw, but am so happy I went for it anyway. It's the best face cleanser and exfoliant ever!!! So when it comes to exfoliating, research has been done that you only need a cleanser as harsh as toothpaste. Anything harsher will mess up your skin. When I put this soap on, I didn't feel any grit, it just felt slimy. I really doubted the exfoliating abilities of this soap. Whenever I wash my face, I use my electric silicone face cleansing brush (this is not made to exfoliate, just to help suds up the soap and push it into pores), so I pulled it out and used it. Right after I washed my face off, I felt pangs of pain from my pimples. When I examined it, I noticed that some (if not all) had popped. That's when I realized that coalface really does exfoliate. It also dawned on me that if it's this powerful at exfoliating, it probably needs to have alot of moisturizing strengths as well (hence the slimey feel), otherwise it will exfoliate AND dry your face which would be awful. Also, some people talked about the soap turning to nothing in a matter of days. This is how I prevented that: 1) it's a facial soap - only use for your face not your body 2) try to not use in the shower - I use Aqua Marina in the shower since it tends to clog up my sink anyway 3) you don't need to dunk the bar of soap under running water - I make sure to rinse my face and really wet it, then I take the side part of the soap (the soap is DRY, my face is WET) and rub it all over my face until I feel the slime everywhere (usually it just takes once for me to go over every section of my face - I don't need to run hard or go over twice). I then place the soap back on my tray with the side that I used out so it dries off quickly. I quickly use my cleanser brush and take my time making sure it gets sudsy all over my face.
