How to Use

1. Place your treatment in a heatproof container and boil some water in a kettle. 2. Slowly add several ounces of boiling-hot water to the solid treatment and stir gently using the wooden stick. Take your time, adding water as needed, and allowing the product to thicken until you're left with an empty stick and a rich, creamy treatment. This should take around five minutes. 3. When it's cool enough to touch, apply to dry hair and leave for around 20 minutes to allow the ingredients to get to work replenishing your hair. Shampoo out and admire your luscious locks! Made too much? Keep your mix for conditioning top-ups for up to four weeks.

Did not help with damage from brushed out dreadlocks

Victoria | 5 days ago

I had dreadlocks for 4 years and then brushed them out. Needless to say, my hair is very damaged. My hair before the dreads was medium weight and straight. Post-dreads my hair is now wavy, frizzy and damaged. I mixed the hot oil treatment with enough water to make it the same consistency as conditioner and then let it cool for a few minutes. I regret letting it cool and I don't think I used nearly enough water. At first it was okay to put into my hair, but as the mixture cooled it became more and more difficult to get it through my hair. It clumped together and I couldn't really get the mixture onto the hair in the middle of the clumps. After a few more minutes the mixture took on the consistency of snot and I could no longer get it into my hair. My recommendation would be to use more hot water than you think and put it in your hair quickly while as hot as possible without burning your hands. I'm very sensitive to scents, all synthetic scents and some natural scents give me migraines and so I was worried about the scent of this. It was a pretty strong, sweet smell but did not give me a migraine. I left the oil in my hair for about 25min. I rinsed it with hot water for about 25min, followed with the lush avocado co-wash and then had to rinse my hair for another 20min to get all of the treatment out of my hair. I used the whole thing, I wonder if I had have diluted it more and used less if it would have taken less time to rinse out? Other reviewers said the treatment left their hair oily. However, my hair was not oily at all, actually quite weightless, in fact. Unfortunately the treatment did nothing for my hair. It is just as frizzy and wavy as before the treatment. Maybe a little softer, but still looks like witch-hair. On the other hand, my bangs which were not dreaded are super soft and healthier looking. Overall, I think this could make straight/medium weight hair really soft, but it sadly does not help with hair damaged by dreadlocks that have been brushed out

Terrible product!

Markham | 9 days ago

I must have received a defective product if the other reviews are to be believed. After mixing up the product it was very difficult to clean it off of the glass container I mixed it in. Unfortunately I had already applied it to my hair. I assume it is the guar gum, but this stuff wouldn't rinse out, even with lots of hot water. In the end I had to put lots of very creamy conditioner in to try and remove the chunks of firm gelatinous goo from my hair. Even then, not all of it came out. To top it all off, my hair didn't feel soft or conditioned at all, until I used my own conditioning mask. I love Lush products, but this one is a total fail.

This product works well, I'm not crazy about the smell but my hair feels a lot softer and healthier. My only issue is the amount of time to remove the product from my long hair. After applying the warm oil within the 20 minutes it had hardened. Once in the shower I needed to use very hot water to warm it back up and attempt to wash it out which took at least 20-25 minutes. I did need to wear my hair up until the next wash as it definitely was not all removed. Again I definitely would purchase and use as the end result is very moisturized hair but I will be prepared to spend an hour at least.

11/10

I suffered through a brutal chemical cut last year and have tried everything and than some to nurse my hair back to heath. It is still incredibly damaged, over processed blonde hair with split ends that are just about transparent (im not yet willing to give up my length for another month or so of growth). My hair is on the finer side however also very frizzy and wavy. Damage is the best thing that has ever happened to my hair! This is the second time I've used it and my hair feels like new! I am super grateful for this product, considering I am a huge Lush head and have tried almost everything besides their hot oil treatments, now ill never look back!

It was kinda messy but it did make my hair soft

Victoria bc | 1 month ago

It was hard to get the right consistency but it was really fun. Made my hair shiny and a little greasy. Make sure to wash your hair really well after. But it was fun to melt in a mug.

Amazing!

Philadelphia, PA | 1 month ago

I just used Damaged for the first time. It was a little messy, but that's probably my fault because i added too much water. If it happens again I might pour it into a sandwich bag and snip the corner to squeeze it out for application. My hair is long, fine, curly and frizzy so I typically wash and straighten it 2-3 times per week which has caused lots of damage and split ends. With the salons being closed I'm unable to get in for a haircut so I tried this out and I am so glad I did! I left it in for about 45 minutes and I rinsed with hot water for about 5 mins before shampooing it out. I straightened my hair after like I normally do and my hair feels soft like butter! Not at all greasy or weighed down and very shiny too. I am going to make this a twice a month routine for sure.

I would buy this product again

This worked so well for me. My hair is normally super frizzy and messy but this made it silky and smooth. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that it left some residue in my hair. Other than that it was perfect.

I'd probably do it again

Niagara falls | 1 month ago

It wasnt difficult to figure out really. I put it in a glass, poured about 1 cup of boiling water, kept stirring. Turned out to be thick enough to apply. I have long hair and it was more than enough for me. I took a bath while letting it sit and I probably left it in longer than I should have. I used shampoo to wash it out but didnt fully let my hair dry. When I woke up this morning I noticed it was quite heavy and oily so I had to wash it again. Super healthy though and feels great.

My hair & scalp feels phenomenal

Regina, Saskatchewan | 1 month ago

I bought this hot oil treatment and then right before using it I read a bunch of terrible reviews. I wasn't sure if I should still try it or not and felt a little scared about what would happen... but I till went for it and was so glad I did! It was wonderful! It felt amazing from start to finish. I melted the oil to a liquid consistency and then massaged it into my scalp and hair with my fingers. Feel, smell, and results - all great! It washed out easily and my hair feels so soft, my scalp so fresh. I am definitely going to keep using it.

Don't be scared

Denver, CO | 2 months ago

I have only used Damaged and have not yet tried the other hot oil treatments but I did not have any extreme issues with washing this treatment out or getting it to a good texture. I used half of the bar and put it in a regular coffee mug that was full of hot water from my kettle. Then I stirred it for 5 minutes then waited for it to come back to room temp (this took 10 more minutes maybe more). The first time I let it sit for the full 20 and had some difficulties getting it out which required a second wash with a clarifying shampoo. The second time I let it sit for ten minutes while taking a bath and that went very well. I think I prefer the other hair masks since they are easier to work with but I like that this product is packaging free so I will continue to purchase.
