Literally Zero Result

I've been using henna for years, and not only is this much, much messier, it's also incredibly grainy and difficult to put in and get out compared to a regular henna powder. That would've been fine if it'd actually dyed my hair, but it didn't. Literally no color change at all- the dye didn't take, possibly from all the oils in the bar. I love lush products overall, but don't waste your money on this.

Best natural option

I've experimented with this product for years. I mix 2 squares of brown with 1 square of red and its perfect. I don't wrap my head because the heat increases the red. My body reacts to commercial hair dye (burned scalp, puffy eyes etc.). So happy to have this option. My hair feels soft and silky.

I was really nervous to try this product. I decided to give it a try after reading several of the good reviews. It is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE I don't know anyway to describe it. My hair is naturally a light brown kinda blonde color with natural highlights. I let it sit for the recommended time and washed it out after. I decided to blow dry my hair and see how it turned out.... just the few spots I did it's orange and brassy I bought the brown. I am so disappointed and honestly want to cry because my hair is my most prized possession. If I could id give this no stars. Do not recommend at all

I would not buy this product again.

I was very disappointed with the result. I was expecting better from LUSH, I do really like their bar shampoos and other face products. The dye did not cover my grey hair and my hair was quite bad looking after it. I think LUSH should warn the customer of the low probability of covering grey hair.

If you have natural African American hair, do not buy

I never used henna before. I did my research online and went to the store and spoke with someone who would understand my hair. I have been natural for over 7 years and I had hair up to the middle of my back. I was trying to avoid using chemical in my hair so I can maintain my length while covering my grey hair. The day I got the henna, I follow the instructions and used a scale to measure out what was needed accurately. I mixed everything according the the Lush video instruction online. After I added the henna to my hair and washed it out exactly the time that was instructed, my hair changed completely. It was beyond bone dry. It didn't matter how much conditioner/hair pomade/oil I put in my hair ( what I usually use to style my hair), it stayed dry to the point where my hair started to break off. I trimmed my ends and it didn't matter. More hair broke off in clumps after every wash day. I had to shave my hair off to get to the new growth which was able to take moisture. Melanin, Blue Magic, and Jamaican black castor oil now keeps my hair moisturized after that ordeal. I have been a Lushy for over 10 years but I will never use any of their hair care products again. I blame myself and will not go beyond bath bombs/bubblerons from now on. The good side of this is my hair is growing back fast and I found the three hair care products I could never live without.

Great grey coverage, did not make my hair red

I was really, I mean, really really afraid to try this. I did not want to drastically change my color or have red hair. I wanted to cover grey at temple and brighten the dull colour my hair was becoming. Test strip was good so I took the plunge. Couldn't be happier. I mixed with espresso chai tea instead of water (really didn't want red) and put it on outside (since so many said it was so messy), did yard work for 2 hours and rinsed out. The brun deepened my colour without pulling red tones. Must of my grays were covered and toned down but enough remain so I have natural transitions in my color instead of one solid flat brown color.. Whew and yay!

followed instructions and was expecting the shine and colour that everyone was raving about online - but honestly my hair has never felt/looked worse. I dont know if its just my hair type, or what, but my hair feels matted, dry and greasy at the same time. For the time, water and mess required in this process - the outcome is disappointing. Wouldn't recommend for anyone with any level of textured hair.

After having a really bad experience with a hair dye and having to shave my head, (long curly hair) i looked into alternatives. I found this from doing some research. I wanted some color to take away my grey, it so, was easy to put in, but what a mess, I did leave in for the whole 4 hrs, did cover the grey and had to clean my shower after, but love the way it makes my hair feel. although did not add any extra color to my hair. so this time i am going to add some blue food coloring to the henna before i put it on.. we shall see

Not for "natural" hair

I've got naturally baby blonde hair, so I never really bleach it for colors. I used this bc I wanted some darkness at the ends for a faux-ombré look. I have no experience with henna in any way as a white person from the town in which I grew up, so I followed the instructions on Lush's blog to a T. I have a friend help with the application, but the journey started as any other: us on the floor cracking a slab of this with a screwdriver and a hammer. Once it was broken up, I took it to my double-boiler and let her melt, it smells like incense and earth, which was actually kind of relaxing. After slopping it on the ends and leaving it to harden, we rinsed it with shampoo and let it dry. It takes a few days, but on my naturally very blonde hair it turned kind of red, so I used the rest to darken it, hopefully that will fix the color. It's definitely messy if you let it get away from you, but anyone with any experience home dying will be fine. If not, get a friend to help and pay a towel on the floor. I'm sure the 'natural' aspect of this dye is why the color saturation is different for everyone. Things like how hot you get the dye, how much water is mixed, how hot it is when applied to hair, etc. can all change the colors.
