Wanted my light red hair to be even more red. It's perfect

This color stays in my hair for months. I have light red hair already so it grows out really nicely. I will say though, it's a huge pain to apply, but worth it. I like it vibrant as possible so I apply it, wrap my head with cling film and sleep with it (with towels on pillows). I hate applying it, it's messy and flaky. But again, ITS WORTH IT. My hair is also super long so adds the extra complications for applying. Definitely recommend this for lighter haired people :)

Great color, long process

I've been using the rouge for two years after dyeing my hair red for 4 years. My hair is much healthier using henna versus traditional dye but you can tell where I stopped dyeing my hair—my ends are much brighter than my roots. I only use a third of the block at a time to touch up my roots; I add a bit more water to make it thinner and easier to paint on with a brush. Then I pull any excess through to my ends. It's messy and waiting 4 hours with a plastic bag & a towel on my hair gets old but I'm happy with the results.

Do your research, this dye is a commitment and not a whim.

I have been using this dye since its launch and have some tips for people looking into trying this product. This dye is permanent. The only way to fully remove it is by growing it out. It will fade over 6-12 months but you can't go blonde until it's grown out. You cannot fully cover it up with a dark dye. Henna sits on top of the hair instead of depositing pigment into the strand like other dyes. This means a regular dye will not sit on top of the red and a red tint will always be present. Unlike many henna dyes, Lush's doesn't contain any heavy metals. This means it is safe to bleach over without melting your hair (yeah, that can happen with some henna). Bleaching can remove some of the red, but not all. Do not bleach any henna dyes that contain indigo as it will turn your hair green. Caca Rouge is the only Lush henna without indigo to my knowledge. The dying process is extremely messy. It's like covering your hair with mud and you may want to wait 3-4 hours to get the best result. I personally find all the trouble worth it as I do not need to touch up the color for 6-12 months. The dye tends to be a very bright orange/red on light hair when it is first done but fades to a more natural color after 2-3 washes. Once you have melted the dye bar, it is normal for the paste to look green. The dye will not add any green to your hair, just the orange/red color. I love this dye but you need to be sure you want this color on your hair for at least a year before you use it.

Game changer!

I have been trying my best to live a healthy, low waste/ low plastic lifestyle. Hair color was just one I figured I would have to continue to use, as a necessary evil. Then I found Lush's henna, and it's a game changer! To say I love this product is an understatement! It was easy to use- no grating or shredding needed- just cut a few times like you would chocolate, hot water, done! Clean up is so easy. The mud like texture helps it to wipe up and I've had zero staining of showers or bathroom.I have medium to dark brown hair and using the Rouge gave a beautiful red tint and most importantly, covered my grays!!! This made my gray hair turn into a beautiful copper highlight, looks natural and gorgeous. The satisfaction of producing less waste for the world and not putting harmful chemicals on my body is just amazing. I love this product and will never use anything else again to color my hair! Thank you Lush for a life changing product!!

Not good for color treated hair. Complicated and hard to apply for the price, and bad results. WILL NOT come out. Smells bad, and broke my already damaged hair off even more. Wouldn't recommend. Stick to a semi or Demi color instead.

I mean I'm allergic to it...

Listen, I do truly like the color that my hair came out, but I don't know that it was worth my cheeks, neck, and chest itching incessantly with tiny little red bumps for like a full business week. Honestly, I feel like the formula is way too complicated compared to other hennas on the market, hence why I had an allergic reaction to THIS henna but not to any of the six other henna's I've habitually used. Maybe do a little skin swatch to make sure you'll be okay? Because trust me you don't want the reaction.

Highly recommend

It was really great until it wasn't. You cannot dye blonde over this. It's been a year since I used it and I still have the undertone color of the henna. It's not a nightmare. But I can't get the color I want. I've had my hair professionally done 4 times and it's still a brassy red.

the redhead I always wanted to be

I've been using this for at least two years now. It's a fantastic red on my brown hair. This is much better choice to chemical hair colors at the drug store. my tips for success: 1. I put the solid hair henna in the blender before adding the boiling water- this procedures a fair better consistency than waiting for it to melt with the boiling water 2. Use newspapers on the floor and counter when applying (you'll want to vacuum and clean up the crumbles) 3. use vasoline (or eq) on your ears and hairline 4. use a mirror (or a friend/family member) to make sure you have applied evenly 5. cover with shower cap for 4 hours 6. showering it out takes awhile.....just keep rinsing (I also normally will shampoo twice and condition once). This will make a mess. 7. Bleach tub/shower within an hour of showering- otherwise it will stain 8. use an old pillow case, you will continue to see red when you rinse your hair the next few times 9. within 24 hours you hair might become this unpleasant orange tinge.... don't worry it will go away in 2 days- so don't freak out you will be fine
