Gorgeous Red Glow Up!!

For most of my adult life, I have dyed my hair red. When the pandemic hit, I couldn't get it colored. Over the year, all my chemically treated hair grew out and I cut it. I loved how healthy my hair was now, but missed my red. This henna is the best of both worlds. I got my red hair back and got to keep my hair healthy and undamaged!! My hair is so soft and shiny! The process is messy, but so worth it. The red is beautiful and natural looking, complimenting the natural highlights that were in my hair. It's a beautiful multifaceted auburn. I am never going back to a hair salon!! Thank you Lush!!

Dark red sheen

Super easy to use and definitely dyed my medium brown hair to a reddish orange tint. The first time I did it it was quite subtle and after the second time it was really red. Turn out I don't like red on myself after all but the bar did what it was supposed to do 😁 I found that cutting the bar into little slivers really helped it all melt evenly.

Best natural option

I've experimented with this product for years. I mix 2 squares of brown with 1 square of red and its perfect. I don't wrap my head because the heat increases the red. My body reacts to commercial hair dye (burned scalp, puffy eyes etc.). So happy to have this option. My hair feels soft and silky.

I've used powdered henna for the last couple of years with good results but I wanted to try Lush's take on it because of the cocoa butter and other additives. I really LOVE it because it leaves my hair very soft and the smell is amazing. Color payoff isn't as vibrant as I'm used to but I do a 2 step process anyway so it's not a big deal to me. Sadly tho, I will not be repurchasing because honestly, it's very pricey compared to the powdered henna and it does fade a lot faster. I think this is good for a person starting out and not someone looking for more coverage or a deeper red.

The only henna I use

I love this henna, the color comes out gorgeous and the oils make my hair and scalp feel all nice and taken care of. I have naturally darker blonde hair, and on me this comes out a vivid copper that lasts for months. The roots also blend pretty well into my natural color, so I usually get away with about 3 months between colorings (and I have gone longer). It also seems I really don't follow the current directions Lush has. First, I grate the henna. I have tried the double boiler method and was never happy with the results, especially as the block gets a bit older. It was always lumpy and made gauging the amount of water to add tricky, so grating is better for me. I also leave it in a lot longer than they specify, usually about 8 hours (tightly wrapped and covered with a towel) before rinsing and co-washing it out. Then I wait another 3-4 days before washing as usual again. I don't know if each of those steps is necessary, but that's the process I arrived at after years of use and I'm sticking with it, and caca rouge.

I used this back in 2019 and it was amazing. Gave my hair an amazing vibrant red that lasted. The last few times I used it, it barely left any color even after 6-8 on my hair. The formula must have changed. I used to be so excited for this product. What a disappointment.

Not worth it

Second time user, and second time being disapointed. Hardly left any color to my brown hair, and I even used it twice (with heat the second time). Made sure my hair was free from products before using, and I just don't know what I could have done differently. Followed instructions to a t. The scent is overpowering and the application is terrible. Clumps up as soon as it hits the hair (no matter how smooth in the double boiler), and gets everywhere. Never again. :(

not what I expected

difficult to use, I find pure natural henna powder without anything added works better and more easily

I'd do it again

I've been wanting to try this henna for literally 10 years and I finally did it yesterday! My natural hair color is medium brown and I recently started box dying my hair auburn-y red at the beginning of quarantine. I let my roots grow out so before the henna my hair was brown at the top and reddish brown at the bottom, its now a nice deep red where my hair was dyed and a brown tinted red at the roots. I would recommend having someone help you apply it. The henna itself is easy to melt down, but a mess to apply and took a LONG time to wash out but wasn't at all inconvenient. I left it in about 5 hours and cling wrapped my hair to get the color more vibrant. The best part is it left my hair nice and soft and my curls feel like they have a little more moisture then usual. I'm for sure going to do it again :)
