Our Egg-free Alternatives

It’s no yolk

We’ve reformulated six fan favorite products to remove eggs and add in some innovative animal-free alternatives—many of which make great cooking substitutes as well.

Eggs have been used for ages in beauty and self-care products to create a silky texture in creams, maintain healthy skin and add volume to limp locks. All of our products are formulated to have specific benefits, so we knew that when searching for alternatives to eggs, we’d need to find ingredients that would do the job just as well.

Which products are changing?

We’ve replaced the eggs in six products across our skin and haircare ranges: Brazened Honey and Cosmetic Warrior Fresh Face Masks, H'Suan Wen Hua Hair Treatment, Jersey Bounce and Curly Wurly Shampoo and D'Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap.

If your personal favorite is on this list, never fear; our intrepid product inventors sent a test to some human volunteers with the original formula in one pot, the egg-free in the other, and found that most people couldn’t tell the difference—and many preferred the new versions!

So what are the new ingredients?

Aquafaba

Made from the viscous fluid found in canned chickpeas, aquafaba is often used as a baking substitute for stiff and airy egg white merengues. Here, we use the plant-based proxy as a way of adding strength to hair and balance troubled skin. Aquafaba can now be found in all six of our newly reformulated products.

Bentonite powder

We turn this rich clay into a gel to help our face masks slip and spread more evenly across the skin. The slick surface also helps razors glide gently across faces, underarms, legs and anywhere else you plan to shave. As you might have already guessed, you’ll find it in Brazened Honey, Cosmetic Warrior and D'Fluff.

Hydrolyzed wheat protein

This cruelty-free protein source breaks down into small particles and penetrates the cuticle of the hair shaft. This allows the wheat protein to give H'Suan Wen Hua and Jersey Bounce their lovely smooth, creamy feel.

Silken Tofu

Silken tofu is a softer, smoother form of classic tofu. This plant-based protein source adds a rich consistency to creams while balancing the skin. This hero ingredient can be found in all new formulations except for Jersey Bounce.

Soy yogurt

Yet another great source of egg-free protein, with the added benefits of B vitamins and rich moisturizing properties. This creamy dairy-free snack can be found in both of our fresh face masks, Brazened Honey and Cosmetic Warrior.
