Face masks are a wonderful way to treat your skin to fresh ingredients that’ll leave you looking and feeling radiant. So, how do you choose the perfect one? It starts with getting to know a little more about our ranges.
What’s the difference between fresh face masks and our other masks?
Whether you’re looking for a mask to add to your routine or want to create an at-home spa experience, choosing a mask can seem daunting. You may have noticed we have a few different types of masks: fresh face masks, face and body masks, and a power mask.
Fresh face masks
Our fresh face masks are made fresh each week and last for about three weeks (or about four to six uses). To make them, we use the freshest fruits and vegetables we can find, which means they need to be refrigerated when they’re in our shops and when you take one home to keep them fresh.
This also means that they’re only available to purchase if you’re in a Lush shop and can’t be ordered online for delivery to your door. However, if you need one STAT, try our buy online, pick up in-store experience; just click, buy, and pick up at your local Lush usually on the same day!
Face and body masks (including a power mask)
Masks like Mask Of Magnaminty, Beauty Sleep or Cup O´ Coffee are also great for skin that needs a little soothing, brightening, exfoliation, or hydration. However, just like their name implies, you can use them on more than just your face. Smooth them over the rest of your body like your neck, décolletage, arms, legs, bum, or any other place that needs some love.
Unlike our fresh face masks, these do NOT need to be refrigerated, so you can buy them whether you’re in-store or shopping online for delivery straight to you.
These masks are also made with gorgeous, simple ingredients for the most effective results. To keep them shelf-stable and longer lasting, their formulas contain safe synthetics like those you’ll find in Mask Of Magnaminty and Beauty Sleep. Cup O’ Coffee and a self-preserving version of Mask Of Magnaminty don’t contain chemical preservatives, because their self-preserving formulas use natural ingredients like glycerin and honey to keep them fresh.
Oh, and what’s with the power mask name? Mask Of Magnaminty has been a fan fave for decades. It’s so popular and effective, there’s really no better way to describe how great it is for soothing, smoothing and cooling skin. It’s a legit powerhouse.
Choosing a mask for your skin’s needs
Just like all our products, our face masks are also created with effects in mind—not cookie-cutter skin types. Everyone’s skin has different needs at different times, so picking your face mask is as simple as considering how you’d like your skin to feel, and then finding the products and ingredients that will get you there.
Face masks make quick work of cleansing the skin because of their clarifying bases of mud, clay or powder. Add a few astringent and purifying ingredients, and your face mask becomes a deep-cleansing powerhouse. Look for ingredients like the tea tree oil in Cosmetic Warrior and lemon juice in Don't Look at Me. These ingredients liberate congested skin, leaving it feeling renewed and bright. We want to make sure the skin stays soft and supple even though it’s getting a deep clean, so you’ll also find softening ingredients like honey, murumuru butter and cocoa butter in these masks to ensure a balanced effect. Get ready for smooth, even skin!
When your skin is craving some calm, look for time-tested soothers to bring your complexion back to its best. Our brand new Glen Cocoa is packed with rich, hydrating almond butter to keep things soft and soothed, while absorbent cocoa powder pulls dirt and excess oils to the surface. Or create a nighttime ritual with Beauty Sleep’s ultra-comforting blend of restorative lavender and a dollop of our luxurious Gorgeous Moisturizer. Rose appeases redness in Rosy Cheeks, while Catastrophe Cosmetic contains calamine powder, which cools and calms stressed out skin, leaving it relaxed with a unified appearance.
For a refreshing scrub, look for naturally exfoliating ingredients like coffee, aduki beans, almond shells, rice, walnut shells or millet. Keep in mind that all exfoliators are not created equal, and range from gentle and renewing to brisk and polishing! Oatifix Fresh Face Mask’s soft exfoliating action comes from oats and finely ground almonds to gently smooth and soften, while Mask Of Magnaminty and Cup O’ Coffee contain more scrubby exfoliators like ground aduki beans and coffee.
