How to Go Plastic Free

Go plastic-free with these easy tips

Breakups are never easy, but it’s time to say goodbye and move on.

We’re talking ditching plastic and starting now. Why? Because it is Plastic Free July! Plastic Free July started in 2011 as a key initiative of the Plastic Free Foundation. Each July, people around the world take part in making the pledge to buy and use less plastic. And in 2019 alone, 250 million people across the globe took part, contributing to a total saving of 825 million kilograms of plastic waste each year.

This year, it’s more important than ever. Why? During Covid-19, recycling and municipal waste services have been limited, which means that the extra plastic we have started to use is not getting recycled. Since plastics were deemed safer in the fight against Covid-19, members of the plastics industry are taking advantage of the fear and uncertainty around the pandemic to push and reinstate the widespread use of single-use plastic bags.

Of course, during this time we have seen a rise in PPE (personal protective equipment) such as masks, gloves and additional medical equipment, which we recognize is important to safety and stopping the spread of Covid-19. However, all that plastic ends up somewhere. Gloves and masks are discarded all over streets and, when rain comes, they are easily washed down into sewers, rivers and the ocean.

Additionally, PPE has become very hazardous to marine life. Plastic can often mimic jellyfish or other types of food for sea turtles and the straps can present tangling hazards. Over time, these plastics break down and add to the amount of waste in our seas, air and food.

Yes, the idea of making a change to your routine can be daunting. But small steps create large impacts. If you feel ready to get started on your new plastic-free routine and aren’t sure where to start, we’re here to help.

Get naked in the bathroom

Wave goodbye to plastics in your bathroom. It’s never been easier to make the switch to packaging-free alternatives when it comes to your shower routine. So, we’ve created a little guide for you

Shampoo

Lather up with our shampoo bars. These little bars can last up to 80 washes, which is close to three bottles of liquid shampoo—so you cut back on plastic and on cost. Our shampoo bars are made with essential oils and fresh ingredients that can leave a beautiful scent in the hair as well as leaving your locks feeling luscious and soft.

Condition

Wash out that shampoo and add some extra softness to your hair with our pressed conditioners. Packed full of butters, fresh fruits and herbal infusions, these conditioners will leave your hair feeling soft, shiny and tangle-free. With four options to choose from, you’re sure to find one that works for your hair’s needs and will leave you wanting to spend an extra few minutes in the shower.

Wash that body

We’re all about the solid. First, no, you’re not more likely to pick up germs from a solid soap over a liquid soap. Once this bar is gone, it’s gone, no unrecyclable pumps and no packaging. Lather up and feel clean and ready to take on the day with our wide range of soaps!

More of a shower gel person? Have you tried our naked shower gels? We know, we know—“Isn’t that just soap?” We hear you. But this is unique in that it feels exactly like a gel-based sudser rather than soap. Six of our iconic scents have been turned into naked shower gels and are ready to leave your body moisturized and clean.

Scrub up

Our body scrubs and butters are the perfect way to buff tired skin while going packaging-free. Made with rich butters and essential oils, these scrubs are gentle enough for every skin type and leaves skin feeling new and soft.

Tea Tree Toner Tab clarifies and deep-cleanses to leave complexions clean and clear with cooling aloe vera powder, while Dream Steam Steamer Tab uses soothing lavender and chamomile oils to alleviate redness and calm skin. Place these in a bowl of hot water and inhale the vapors into your skin. Finish up with splashing the water on your face and drying with a towel.
