Breakups are never easy, but it’s time to say goodbye and move on.
We’re talking ditching plastic and starting now. Why? Because it is Plastic Free July! Plastic Free July started in 2011 as a key initiative of the Plastic Free Foundation. Each July, people around the world take part in making the pledge to buy and use less plastic. And in 2020 alone, 326 million people across the globe took part, contributing to a total saving of 900 million kilograms of plastic waste each year.
This year, it’s more important than ever. Why? During Covid-19, recycling and municipal waste services were limited, which means that the extra plastic we had to use wasn’t getting recycled. Since plastics were deemed safer in the fight against Covid-19, members of the plastics industry took advantage of the fear and uncertainty around the pandemic to push and reinstate the widespread use of single-use plastic bags.
Of course, during this time we saw a rise in PPE (personal protective equipment) such as masks, gloves and additional medical equipment, which we recognize is important to safety and stopping the spread. However, all that plastic ended up somewhere. Gloves and masks have been discarded all over streets and, with the rain, they were washed down into sewers, rivers and the ocean.
Additionally, PPE has become very hazardous to marine life. Plastic can often mimic jellyfish or other types of food for sea turtles and the straps can present tangling hazards. Over time, these plastics break down and add to the amount of waste in our seas, air and food.
Yes, the idea of making a change to your routine can be daunting. But small steps create large impacts. If you feel ready to get started on your new plastic-free routine and aren’t sure where to start, we’re here to help.
Get naked in the bathroom
Wave goodbye to plastics in your bathroom. It’s never been easier to make the switch to packaging-free alternatives when it comes to your shower routine. So, we’ve created a little guide for you.
Lather up with our shampoo bars. These little bars can last up to 80 washes, which is close to three bottles of liquid shampoo—so you cut back on plastic and on cost. Our shampoo bars are made with essential oils and fresh ingredients that can leave a beautiful scent in the hair as well as leaving your locks feeling luscious and soft.
Wash out that shampoo and add some extra softness to your hair with our pressed conditioners. Packed full of butters, fresh fruits and herbal infusions, these conditioners will leave your hair feeling soft, shiny and tangle-free. With three options to choose from, you’re sure to find one that works for your hair’s needs and will leave you wanting to spend an extra few minutes in the shower.
Wash that body
We’re all about the solid. First, no, you’re not more likely to pick up germs from a solid soap over a liquid soap. Once this bar is gone, it’s gone, no unrecyclable pumps and no packaging. Lather up and feel clean and ready to take on the day with our wide range of soaps!
Our body scrubs and butters are the perfect way to buff tired skin while going packaging-free. Made with rich butters and essential oils, these scrubs are gentle enough for every skin type and leaves skin feeling new and soft.
Lock in moisture
Lock in extra moisture with our naked body conditioners. Washed the suds off your skin? Time to hydrate and nourish your body. Body conditioners are a great way to leave skin smoother and are perfect for those of us living in areas where water is a little harder on skin.
Get naked with your skincare
So, you’re ready to update your skincare routine, but you’re not sure where to start. Going packaging-free with your skincare has never been easier.
Any good skincare routine starts with cleansing the face of the daily buildup skin can experience, such as dirt and oil. We’ve got great totally naked cleansing balms that are filled with softening and purifying ingredients. Simply swipe across your face and allow your skin’s natural warmth to melt the product. Give it a little massage and then wash off.
Our naked facial oils are a great alternative to packaged products and are rich in hydrating, fresh ingredients that leave the skin feeling soft and radiant. Simply swipe these across your face and massage in with your fingers. These are also a perfect way to prime skin before applying makeup.
